Tweetsie RR Pics from October 2, 2011

Blowing Rock, NC

Tweetsie RR is a western-themed amusement park which happens to have a 3-foot gauge train running around the perimeter. It's geared more toward families and kids than railfans, but we decided to visit to see the train anyway. Here's the main entrance.
Tweetsie #12, a 4-6-0 is readied for service next to the Tweetsie shops. #12 is formerly ET&WNC.
Here's main street.
Cowboy cantena.
Water tank.
#12 brings a five-car train into the boarding area.
#12 smokes it up a little while standing.
In front of #12 at the boarding are is a semaphore signal.
We're onboard the train and about to go for a trip around the loop. Here some actors conduct a short skit.
Stopped for another skit.
Tweetsie's coaches were built using the trucks and frames from East Broad Top hopper cars.
Even #12's tender rides on EBT trucks.
There's an old ski lift to carry folks from the lower level to the top of the hill where there are other rides and attractions.
The Mouse Mine train makes a circle around the top of the hill.
Here's the Mouse Mine train station.
The folks at Tweetsie were nice enough to show us around their shop. Here is a small steam engine they've been doing some work on.
They've also been doing some work on this 4-4-0 Crown engine.
Here's a close up of the cylinder and first set of drivers.
Looking in the cab of the Crown.
This set of wheels is here getting some work done from Busch Gardens.
Close up look at the smaller steam engine Tweetsie is working on.
This old coach is formerly EBT coach #5.
Tweetsie takes good care of their old EBT coach.
Here's Tweetsie's inspection motorcar.
In the cab of #12.
The train is stopped for actors to do a skit.
Firebox door. #12 has lots of features which are similar to the EBT's #11, 12, 14, and 15.
Tweetsie's big bridge without a train.
Probably the most interesting view at the Tweetsie is the train crossing this long wooden trestle.
Here's the park from a road near the parking lot.
One last shot of old #12.
Tweetsie takes pride in keeping their equipment clean. Here the fireman is wiping away some oil in between trains.
