This caboose has seen better days.
NS stores excess equipment in their yard for the VA Museum Transportation. The next few photos show that equipment. Here's a Conrail locomotive crane.
Central of Georgia SD9.
Former Conrail SDP45. As a Conrail fan, I hope to see this old girl restored someday.
Heavyweight coach.
This pair of E8s was already previously restored, but 30 years of outside storage with no cover isn't kind. One is Wabash, and the other is RF&P.

The NS research and test lab is located near the Roanoke Shop. Research cars can usually be seen here. Here is NS 49.

Most of the remainder of photos were taken on a walk around the former N&W Roanoke Shops. Here's the powerplant and turntable area.

We didn't see many trains today. Mainly just this SD40-2 running around lite.
N&W position signals.
Retired NS C39-8E.
Stored ex-Conrail C40-8s.
This old RP-F6Y slug is in storage at the shop too. It's rumored to be on hold for the VA Museum of Transportation. It's a former H24-66 trainmaster.
N&W logos on the shop buildings.
Turntable area.
Powerplant with sign.
It seems Roanoke doesn't mostly GE work, while the Juniata Shops deal mostly with EMDs.
