From the 17th street bridge we look out over the area which was once the Altoona Machine Shops of the PRR.
New signal at Alto. This one seems to be for the Cove Secondary.

Up at CP-Slope a heavy coal train with a double set of SD40E helpers goes main 1 to main 9 to take 1 yard at Alto.
Now that the train has passed, note the new signals and new switches installed at Slope. Once all the changes take effect, CP-Slope will no longer exist. It will be become part of Alto.

This signal on the Cove Secondary at 31st Street will be replaced as part of the signal upgrades in Altoona. A new signal is installed just south of here.
Here's the previously mentioned new signal at South Altoona complete with insulated joint bars. Cab signals will pick up here once all the changes take effect.
October 2011
MW crews are installing a new switch today at the CP-Slope eastbound signal. A Brandt truck with a turnout car standsby.

This building was constructed in 1905. It's 106 years old this year.

The yard crew comes up to Works with a group of engines for the shop. NS 7210 SD80MAC is in the consist.
CSX 963 ES44AC is brand new from GE. GE is contracting with TMS (Juniata Shops) to paint them.

Here's the yard crew with two SD40-2 frames and an SD60I for the shop. The two frames will be used to build RP20SD gensets for UP.
The 4th Street pedestrian bridge has been closed for a long time.
