Bryson City, NC

September 30th
On our way to Bryson City we stopped in Andrews. GSMR has a station there which is used by the town. There's a passing siding here but their passenger train doesn't run here. Maybe they run freight out here; I don't know.
October 1st
This caboose and open car won't be on our train. GSMR has lots of equipment because they hauled quite a few people. On this day I was one of 444 people on their train.
Couple of switch stands at Bryson City.
Swain County has this caboose on display.
We arrive in downtown to find the train crew putting our train together.
Powering our train will be these two GP9s.
One each end of the train is a caboose which has been converted to a HEP car.
GSMR has quite the variety of equipment.
Several cars in the train are open cars.
One car in the train is a gift shop and cafe.
This tankcar carries diesel fuel for the engines and HEP cars.
The crew has the train put together and everyone will board soon.
The GSMR runs along Fontana Lake for part of the trip.
Here we are crossing a long high bridge across the lake.
GSMR runs 5mph through this tight curve.
We've arrived at the Nantahala Outdoor Center for a one hour stop.
The train must be split here due to a public crossing.
GSMR 1751 will lead the train back to Bryson City long hood forward. 1751 was originally built for the TNO in 1955.
Inside the club car which is next to our car.
Here's our first class open car. This was the first trip for this car following it's overhaul.
The other end of the club car next to our car.
If you like Kudzu, you'll like the GSMR. You'll see lots of it here.
A scene from the train.
Bryson City station.
ATSF caboose.
GSMR 711 was originally built for the UP in 1954.
Unusual type of whistle post. I never saw one before this trip.
Here's GSMR's "Harper." This car was built for the PRR as the "Dixie Flyer."
Here's inside the "Harper."
GSMR has a turntable bridge stored on site, possibly for future use.
Here's the 'builders plate' on the turntable.
Kudzu is trying to overtake the parking lot.
