East Broad Top Best of 2004

by Lance Myers

Four years late, I decided to put together a "Best of 2004" gallery. This collection includes the best photographs that were shot by myself over the past year. This collection of images best represents the 2004 season and is not necessarily good photography. The original reasons for not posting a Best of 2004 gallery sooner were: 1) most of my 2004 photos are 35mm, and 2) I wasn't able to make more than a few trips to the EBT that year.

June 12 - Nighttime Visit
Since I was working night shift at the time, I decided to spend a June night at the EBT.
FEBT moved the large driver tires to this location to relieve the stress on the buildings that they were leaning against.
Over at the roundhouse, #14 has just been lit and smoke from the fire escapes out the firebox door before a draft forms.
In the next stall over, #15 is still in the middle of her overhaul.
#15 is BLW c/n 41196.
#12 and #18 are next to eachother.
The sun is starting to rise and some of the freight cars are next to the shops.
3-way stub. Left takes you to the turntable lead, center goes to the "mud track" inside the car shop, and right goes toward the car shop and later splits into the two main tracks in the car shop.
Sand house on the left, boiler shop on the right. Stone farm house in the center with wooden additions for parts storage.
June 20
#14 takes on water at the stand pipe next to the coal dock. I used to think #15 was the last to use this in 2001, but after 'finding' this shot, I recall the stand pipe being fixed for #14's use, then breaking again soon after.
#14 poses with the train parked at the station.
July 24
#14 backs away from the turntable ash pit and past the shops.
The train is readied on the coach track.
Southbound on the long fill crossing Runk Road.
September 20
A ghostly scene of an EBT hopper car.
Pogue bridge shows evidence of a major flood with branches hanging from the bottom of the bridge.
October 10 - Fall Spectacular
#17 on display with a freight train.
The morning photographer's train.
One of two EBT 4-bay hoppers. The other was converted to 3-bay. Click here to see what this car looks like today.
