The last stop for vacation 2011 was Cass Scenic RR. We were lucky enough to reserve one of the company houses on short notice. The weather was cold and damp today, but no big deal!
Reproduction Cass depot.
Bobber caboose.
Chessie caboose.
Cass company store with some strange clouds.
Before the trains begin running we took a quick look at the deadline of engines and cars. Here's a GE centercab.
The Brimstone and New River Shay.
Cass #7.
The Graham County Shay is fairly new to Cass. It's a parts source to keep the others in service.
The other GE centercab.
Back at the Cass shop three Shays are getting ready for the day's runs.
Cass #11 at the water tower.
The engine crew preps #11.
#5 and #6 will come down next once #11's heads up the mountain with its train.
#11 is bound for Whittacker.
#11 takes the curve at the water tank.
#5 now takes on some water.
With a full tender #5 will now back down to the station and across the road to wait. She'll be #6's helper for the Bald Knob trip.
Now it's #6's turn for water. She's so big!
#6 now has her train and will drop down to the station.
A big croud waits at the station.
Cass #5
Here comes big #6 with our train.
We're on the train bound for Bald Knob. Here's Cass #4 at the shop as we pass by.
It was a cloudy, foggy day, but this helped to bring the fall colors out a bit.
Our train arriving Whittacker Station.
Our power.
#6 and #5 both get some oiling while we're at Whittacker.
#6 and #5 smoke the place up.
And we're ready to continue up the mountain.
