Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum

August 2003
This small 0-4-0T was used as late as the mid 1970's. It was supposedly retired in operating condition.

This portion of the museum yard still needs rearranged for the turntable. The GG1 and the baggage and express cars will need moved out while track is realigned.
One last shot of the Baldwin diesel before it leaves for SMS Rail Service. Notice it is stenciled "SLRS."
October 2006
Believe it or not, this is the original watchman's shanty from Huntingdon, PA at 4th street. It sat atop a pole.
November 2006
For years this tender sat just outside the museum grounds. This year it was moved within the fence and modified with two large grill inside the coal bunker.
Museum volunteers have been in the progress of restoring this diner.
The museum just acquired this car this week. It is the PRR "Mountain View," a blunt end observation that once worked the Broadway Limited. Here's the rear end of the "Mountain View."
This tail car is the "Jacks Narrows," named for a narrow gap in Jacks Mountain at Mt. Union, PA, about 45 miles east of Altoona.
This RPO is getting a paint job. It has a coat of primer right now.
The private car "Loretto."
This is a Brookville gas locomotive weighing probably around 4 tons. I believe it is a model BFA.
Later this month, the museum moved the Mountain View undercover, next to the GG-1, which made for an interesting photo.
January 2007
The museum recently took re-delivery of several additional pieces. This is the Union League Club, owned by the NRHS Horsesheo Curve chapter. It will be lifted by crane to an insular piece of track.

I can't recall the name of this car right now. It needs a lot of TLC inside.

The only parts of 1361 to arrive at the museum so far are the drivers and cab.

An overall view of the museum yard from one of the pedestrian bridges.
PRR 1361's tender arrived back in Altoona recently. The museum says it's completed but isn't painted yet.
August 2011
PRR "Mountain View." When it came here I was hopeful it would get the work it needed to become Amtrak certified again. Doesn't look like it will ever happen.
Two axle scale test car.
Small Brookville industrial locomotive.
Control for the Brookville.
October 2011
After 11 plus years of starts and stops, full scale construction on the roundhouse at the museum has begun.
Roof trusses.
New foundation.
Finally some progress at the museum. The soon the equipment is inside the better.
November 2011
Here are more photos of the roundhouse construction.
Here's 1361's tender. It's pending a paint job at Union Tank Car Co.
January 2012
Construction continues on the roundhouse.
Building materials occupy the parking lot.
