Pennsylvania is very rich in railroad history. Many firsts and other important milestones have occured in the Keystone State. The first US locomotive operated in Northeast Pennsylvania. Strasburg, America's oldest shortline, was incorporated in the 1850's. America's oldest narrow nauge railroad, the East Broad Top, was chartered in 1856. The railroad holding the same name as the state, the Pennsylvania Railroad, was once the largest and "standard" railroad of the world. In this modern age, Pennsylvania boasts major attractions such as the Railroad Museum of PA, in Strasburg, the Strasburg Railroad, Steamtown National Historic Site, the Altoona Railroad Museum and Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark, the Allegheny Portage Railroad, and the historic East Broad Top Railroad.
